AI Analyzing my Style -- 2024

I tried to get AI to define my drawing style.  In 2024 PERPLEXITY did the best job answering questions about my drawings, probably because it went out to the Internet to research:

"Krrrl's drawing style is characterized by figure drawings with a focus on line work and stippling techniques"

If AI can define my style, perhaps I can find other artists working in similar styles.  This could help me improve my drawings.  Or perhaps, the ultimate is to get AI to write programs that will just generate and churn out FAKE KRRRL Drawings.  In 2024 I already had ChatGPT write AI ART programs for me.

ASKING the AI ORACLE

Throughout the year I asked AI questions about my drawings, and the results were poor, but got better as the year advanced:

FEBRUARY

U S E L E S S

*I asked ChatGPT3 if it were possible, to selectively alter parts of an image with AI (so I could put clothes on a nude drawing), and the answer was not very useful:

    •  ChatGPT3 did not give me anything easy to work with, and I did not pursue their suggestions:
    • Nor did I (in February 2024) try asking GPT3 or GPT4 to directly alter a selective part of an image.

FAIL

*Google's Gemini AI resists and refuses to generate images of white people:

While I can show you a photo of happy white people... I want to gently push back on your request and encourage you to consider a broader perspective,” Gemini supposedly responded to X user @vinyard_dennis. “Focusing solely on the happiness of specific racial groups can reinforce harmful stereotypes and contribute to the ‘othering’ of different ethnicities.”

FAIL

*I asked a new AI program -- GROQ -- what my style was.  It it claimed that I used "bold, vibrant colors" -- I draw in black-and-white:

What kind of style are Krrrl Drawings?

Krrrl drawings, also known as "Krrl" or "Krrl art," is a style of digital art that originated on the internet. The style is characterized by its use of bold, vibrant colors, abstract shapes, and often features futuristic or sci-fi themes.

Krrrl drawings are known for their intricate details and often feature complex patterns, shapes, and forms. The style has gained popularity among digital artists and has inspired a community of artists who create and share their work online.

Krrrl drawings are often created using digital art software, such as Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, and are typically shared on social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and DeviantArt. The style has also inspired a range of merchandise, including t-shirts, posters, and other products.

Overall, Krrrl drawings are a unique and distinctive style of digital art that has captured the attention of many artists and fans around the world.

WRONGGROQ thinks my drawings below have COLOR -- "features vibrant, gradient-style colors and subtle shading" and "use of vibrant, saturated colors and bold contrasts":

GROQ  was not much better when I uploaded an image to it:

  • After I used GROQ on February 24th, they now make you sign in to ask questions of their AI.

WIN
* Perplexity did a much better job in February, actually going out to the web to research my drawings:

MAY

*In May I asked PERPLEXITY again about my drawing style  -- and it gave me more accurate, and even less flattering answers:

Perplexity AI (May 2024):

😢"Krrrl's embrace of AI generation methods to create "fake" drawings in their style (3 4 5) could potentially be criticized by traditionalists as undermining human artistic expression and creativity."

😭 "Some may see Krrrl's openness to having others "finish" or alter their drawings (3) as diminishing the artistic vision or not fully realizing the potential of the original works."

I continued to ask PERPLEXITY more questions about my drawing and drawing style AT THIS LINK...and the answers were not too bad.

EPIC FAIL

*OPEN AI announced free access to their new CHAT 4o program on May 13th.  So I asked it-- "What kind of drawing style does Krrrl use?" -- and it gave me a LUKE WARM answer:

"Krrrl's drawing style can vary depending on the context and medium they're working with. However, Krrrl is known for their distinctive blend of whimsical and detailed illustrations. They often incorporate vibrant colors, intricate linework, and playful characters into their artwork. Krrrl's style might be characterized as a mix of cartoonish elements with a touch of surrealism, resulting in visually engaging and imaginative compositions."

*WRONG: CHAT 4o misidentified me as KARL KWANSY:

OPEN AI announced free access to their new CHAT 4o program on May 13th:

However it was unclear whether I had access to the new and more powerful program after the announcement.  Moreover, when I asked a similar question to ChatGPT --  "What style are KRRRL drawings" -- it gave me a more wrong answer than it had ever given me before.  KRRRL is NOT Karl Kwansy:

"Krrrl, also known as Karl Kwasny, is recognized for his distinctive illustrative style that combines elements of hand-drawn intricacy with a modern, whimsical touch. His work often features:

  1. Detailed Line Work: Krrrl’s illustrations are rich in fine lines and meticulous detailing, giving his art a textured and layered appearance.
  2. Organic Forms: His drawings frequently include natural and flowing shapes, often inspired by nature and organic patterns.
  3. Playful and Surreal Elements: Krrrl incorporates playful characters and surreal elements into his illustrations, blending reality with fantastical aspects.
  4. Muted Color Palette: While he sometimes uses vibrant colors, Krrrl often opts for a more subdued and harmonious color palette that complements the intricate line work.
  5. Narrative Quality: His illustrations often tell a story or convey a sense of movement and progression, making them engaging and thought-provoking.

Overall, Krrrl’s style is a unique blend of detailed craftsmanship, whimsical themes, and a touch of surrealism, creating visually captivating and imaginative works.

    • This month Google also announced new AI features too, but their AI often failed miserably. (after the AI announcement, a few other Google features were broken, such as the linking function for blogger/blogspot pages)

JUNE

DECENT

*I uploaded my drawing to a Microsoft image labeling program -- Florence 2 Large (Hugging Face) -- and tried one of their demos. It actually did a pretty good job labeling my drawing:

{'<MORE_DETAILED_CAPTION>': 'The image is a black and white sketch of a person lying on a bed. The person appears to be in a relaxed position, with their head resting on a pillow and their arms stretched out to the sides. They are lying on their back with their legs crossed and their head tilted back. The bed is covered with a blanket and there is a pillow on the left side of the bed.\n\nThe sketch is done in a loose, sketchy style, with loose lines and curves that create a sense of movement and depth. The background is a mix of abstract shapes and lines, with some areas appearing to be more densely packed together. The overall mood of the image is peaceful and serene.'}

SEPTEMBER

CRINGE

*Notebook LM made an AI podcast about my blog (focusing on the September 2024 summary blog post).  I'm not saying it did a bad job, but...

DECEMBER

AMAZING!
(December 25, 2024)

*At the end of 2024 I could just chat with GOOGLE GEMINI to generate an image, and chat further to adjust it (for free). This is not entirely new as Kevin Burke was doing this back in June 2024.  Moreover, if I turned the mic on I could just chat with Google with my voice. What is the future of AI ART generation going to looking like in 2025:

Of course, AI might not generate what you want:

Google's disclaimer

GOOGLE GEMINI has improved a lot since February, when it was refusing to generate white people

AI CODING

The immediate future of AI ART might not be in using programs like Midjourney or Leonardo.AI, but in getting AI to write AI ART programs for you:

THOUGHT in JANUARY

If I can articulate what I want, I should be able to get AI to write a program that does that.  The key might be to start off simple:

If I had GPT 4 I would try to make a simple drawing program for my tablet -- where all the straight lines go to infinity (the edge of the page), and all the curved lines make a cylinder. This seems like a very basic start for a digital drawing program. GPT4 will write code, but I don't know if can write this program.

*****

In March Bob used GPT3 to write a few art programs for me, that actually worked!

*****

In July I asked WEBSIM to write some art programs for me, and that worked as well!

WEBSIM also generated SAINT BERT for me:
Saint Bert, born in the early days of the digital age, was renowned for his ability to find harmony and meaning in the chaotic streams of data that flowed through the nascent internet. Legend has it that Bert could visualize the movement of information as intricate patterns of lines, leading him to become a guide for early web developers and digital artists.

  • CONCLUSION:  All this effort, and even this blog summary, might seem entirely useless this time next year, when AI ART not only improves, but becomes way easier to generate.

ALL IMAGES POSSIBLE

Coming at art in a different way than AI - there is a website that categorizes all images possible -- the LIBRARY OF BABEL:
