PRINTMAKING 2024 -- Quelab -- Part 3

I get my hands dirty at QUELAB makerspace to create and help stage my printmaking projects -- most notably using their laser cutter to both engrave and print, and cut out "hat" tessellation shapes:

EVENTS

Quelab is invited to participate in various events in Albuquerque, and sometimes I join them to do live printmaking:

NATIONAL NUCLEAR MUSEUM
April 12

I did live printmaking the NATIONAL NUCLEAR MUSEUM in Albuquerque on April 12, 2024:

LEGOS

Brian not only made LEGO bookmark prints at Quelab, but he built a printing press out of LEGOS, and showed it off in February:

Brian bought us some LEGO BITS, and we used them to make LEGO prints on a TORTILLA PRESS in Henry Morales' studio:

Later we discovered a program that translates images into LEGOS  -- LEGO ART -- which we can use for printmaking:

Amy Maestas ran a LEGO printmaking workshop with OffCenter ARTS, during the PRINTERS PLANET market on May 25th, at FUSION in Albuquerque:

SILKSCREEN

Clara and Aaron at Quelab made a few silkscreen prints in February with their silkscreen set-up:

AI LASERCUT PRINTS

I used the laser cutter at Quelab to engrave AI generated images into linoleum, and then made prints with the AI linocuts:

Adric also introduced us to STAMPING FOAM for printmaking -- which when heated up, will accept an image from a linocut.  Then we can ink and print with the foam pad.   Moreover, the foam is reusable:

ROUND TORTILLA PRINTS

The laser cutter did a beautiful job on engraving 4 inch diameter round AI linocuts, for making "street taco" sized prints with a TORTILLA PRESS:

I combined the round discs to make an ECLISPE PRINT, to submit to a print exchange in Durango, Mexico sponsored by Laboratorio SieteVidas:

I laser engraved more AI "street taco" discs to demo print at the PRINTERS PLANET in Albuquerque, and the Albuquerque RAIL YARDS:

Before Quelab moved, I spent four nights cranking out individual tessellation prints to frame and post on the TESSELLATION 2024 blog:
We are always experimenting with new tools to help us make prints:

Ellie ordered some ESTAMPADOR MANUAL for printing by hand, from ARTENIA in Barcelona:

Dawn Tello gave Ellie a mini-printmaking kit:

Ellie also bought a glass door knob, to use as a baren for hand-printing:

We saw a FISKARS FUSE system at the SOUTHWEST PRINT FIESTA, hacked for printmaking. Moreover it folds up nicely with a handle, making it easy to carry to any location (though it is heavy):

FISKARS does not make this anymore, so we bought one on EBay:

Tim also 3D printed a 7 inch "hat" shape, which we generated on COOKIE CAD. We could press this into clay, draw designs into it, and kiln them to make ceramic tiles.  Then we could piece all the tiles together to make mosaic murals or floor pieces:
