Jared Tarbell

JARED TARBELL spoke at the UNM ARTS Lab on December 5, 2024.  He was a co-founder of Etsy, but now is concentrating on generative computer art.

Jared Tarbell programs in Processing.

Several of his programs are posted on GitHub.

I wondered if I could download one of his programs, to generate some of his art with an online program:

***

Then my mind started wandering.

Jared was working with tessellation artwork -- specifically with just two tiles discovered by Robert Penrose.

Later a single aperiodic monotile was discovered, and we have been working with that for our EXQUISITE TESSELLATION Print project.

Jared's talk introduced me to the beautiful patterns of Truchets

I found a couple of online Truchet pattern generators:

I wondered if I could translate my drawings into Truchet patterns, but did not have great success in Midjourney (blending one of my drawings with a Truchet pattern).  I probably need to do this more mathematically:

Midjourney blended my drawing

UPDATE (December 9, 2024): Julie Hayes was the first to figure out the maze, and therefore won the maze that Jared Tarbell laser cut:
