PRINTMAKING

During the drawing session we had a printmaking "dress rehearsal" in anticipation of The PRINTERS PLANET in Taos this weekend (May 24-25, 2025), where we will demo prints and hand them out for free.

Ellie Weadock pulled the first print:

Ellie also lined up three carved lizard linocuts
to print on an 8x8 inch piece of paper

Daniel Allen also printed his new linocut

Daniel carved a "soft linoleum" block that he bought from Amazon.  This is a different material than the real traditional battleship linoleum that we usually use.  It is made of Polypropylene (PP), which is easier to carve.  I wonder if this is safe to engrave with a laser cutter:

Daniel Allen's print smeared slightly. Perhaps because it slipped under the pressure of the press. The "soft linoleum" material is slicker than the battleship linoleum that we use, so perhaps we need to hold it down with double sided wood tape:

David Brower showed me a portrait drawing that he made, by drawing with a white pencil on black paper.  He said that it made him think different, just focusing on the light shapes. This would be the simplest way to draw a linocut, as one would just have to carve out the black areas:

Ellie will experiment soon with the Moku Hanga technique:
