PRINTMAKING IN COLOR

On June 19th Henry Morales and I printed in color at his studio.  We did not make enough prints the previous Saturday in Santa Fe, and I wanted to return both the linocuts and prints to Henry and Virgil Velasco:

VIRGIL'S PRINTS

We printed some of Virgil Velasco's linocuts:

HENRY'S PRINTS

BURNT vs RAW UMBER

One of the big discoveries was that BURNT UMBER was darker -- and that RAW UMBER was lighter. This can make a huge difference, as the dark Burnt Umber feels better than black.  However the images that call for a not-so-dark color, look great with Raw Umber:

BURNT UMBER ink looks black,
but feels a lot better

RAW UMBER ink is lighter
and better for some other prints

Henry also rolled a light color

on the image without using the press

We also printed Virgil's small Andy Warhol linocut:

JULLIANA KIRWIN

I visited JULIANNA KIRWIN'S studio on June 21st, where she and Kaylan were inking up a big print, also in Cranfield Caligo Relief colors:

Also I saw Julie Sola selling her prints in Santa Fe the day before, on June 20th:
