JUNE SUMMARY -- 2025

I made a lot of AI ANIMATIONS after MIDJOURNEY added a video feature on June 18th; and I also kept steady busy printmaking and drawing in June:

AI ANIMATION: I breathed life into my drawings with the new Midjourney Video feature:

TRIPLE: I drew the live model -- altered the drawing with AI -- and laser engraved the image into linoleum to make the print below:
Then we put all the stiff foam plates together to make a big collaborative EXQUISITE TESSELLATION Print at Quelab, for the ATOMIC 66 week:

MISSING: We temporarily misplaced our Quelab president:

DRAWING

Ideally I want THE DRAWING TO FLOW, around the model as well and over and through the figure -- more than just the contour. That way the flow could integrate the figure and the space.

PRINTMAKING

We kept steady making prints and making printmaking progress:

REMARQUE PRINT WORKSHOP moved from their Central Avenue location closer to downtown Albuquerque (near the South Broadway Cultural Center) this month.  Takach moved their presses on June 23rd:

LIVE PRINTMAKING, in both Albuquerque and Santa Fe:

ALBUQUERQUE

We used an Alternative Tessellation tile that was generated with an ONLINE PROGRAM:

SANTA FE

COLOR: Then we reprinted some of the linocuts made for Santa Fe, in color, at Henry Morales' studio on June 19th:

Virgil Velasco's Year-of-the-Snake print
came out beautifully in two colors

CUBA meets EL PASOFrancisco Delgado and the Cuban printmakers had opening on the same day in Santa Fe, June 6th.  The next day they met each other:

TUCSON meets ALBUQUERQUEJOE MARSHALL and his family passed through Albuquerque and made a quick tessellation print at Quelab on June 28th, on their way back to Tucson:

Joe Marshall has already carved his big
EXQUISITE TESSELLATION linocut
for the big steamroller print this October
during the Southwest Print Fiesta 2025

DISTRIBUTION: We have also been passing out tessellation plates.
  • We sent a large stack of linoleum tessellation "hats" to Taller Grafica Libre in Zaachila, Oaxaca
  • I sent two linoleum "hats" to Alice Xinyi Lin in New York City
  • I sent a stack of stiff foam "hats" to Jackie MaMahon in Missoula, Montana

went to Oaxaca

AI ART

The BIG AI Innovations -- KREA introduced their own new image making model, and MIDJOURNEY introduced their AI VIDEO feature in June 2025:

KREA

The KREA1 model is more detailed, but generally I prefer what the less detailed older FLUX model on KREA does to my drawings.

My original drawing,
the KREA1 version without my AI model,
the old FLUX version with my AI model,
the new KREA1 version with my AI model

My drawing altered by Deep Dream Generator,
the KREA FLUX alteration,
the KREA1 alteration

I prefer what the less detailed FLUX AI model on KREA
does to my drawings

The more detailed KREA1 version,
is too dense, and sucks some of the space and flow from my figures

However I did like the "Modernist Sculpture" AI style model I made for the old KREA FLUX model (based on the previous Leonardo.AI generations, that were in turn based on my drawings and Bernini's sculpture):

MIDJOURNEY

MIDJOURNEY came out with an AI VIDEO Generator on June 18, 2025.

The YouTube video below says essentially, that Midjourney is very good at animating drawings and cartoon styles:

MindAR

CURRENTS NEW MEDIA -- The most interesting exhibit I saw at the CURRENTS exhibition was the Augmented Reality experience by CORRINA ESPINOSA:

Corrina Espinosa delivered an Augmented Reality experience that DID NOT require the viewer to download an app.  Instead she used MindAR and A-Frame, and I am trying her MindAR Tutortial -- and blogged about it.

MORE AI PROGRESS:

I went to the opening weekend for the big exhibition at SITE SANTA FE, and took their valet shuttle to the other locations on June 29, 2025:
