Alabama Public Television came to film David Brower during the drawing session. The segment will probably come out in the fall:

PRINTMAKING

I brought the FISKARS FUSE to show off the press and new plastic press bed. I did not expect to print, but Andrew suggested that we rub charcoal on the linocut and run it through the press:

Then Ellie added some watercolors,
and we wet down the charcoal

The resulting print was ugly, however I think the idea is solid.  We should figure out how to paint colors on the linocut and print it on location, in a Mokuhanga method:

The print was ugly,
but this is the start of a good idea

Then I took the FISKARS FUSE to print at Quelab, to polish up the system.  I cut down the 1/4 inch piece of acrylic to a 12x12 inch sheet.  I was using my new custom cut press bed -- 1/2 inch thick, 12x24 inch HDPE plastic from Port Plastics:

The resulting print still was a bit salty at the edge -- either I didn't ink it well, or there is something uneven about the press.  However I did not get any salty texture, using the smooth acrylic sheet on top.  The HDPE plastic is used for cutting boards, and has a rough texture that actually transferred to the print before, when I used it on top of the print.
