"Pitch" for an article in Southwest Contemporary magazine

I made a "PITCH" for a "feature" article in Southwest Contemporary magazine -- their Volume 11:  HYPERLOCAL -- about our EXQUISITE TESSELLATION Print project.

"The PITCH"

Our HYPERLOCAL project is about weaving the printmaking undercurrents together in the Southwest.  We do this through our EXQUISITE TESSELLATION Print project -- a new twist on the Surreal Exquisite Corpse game.

This year (2024) we have been passing out "hat" linoleum tiles to printmakers-- and asking artists to carve an image. Then we piece the linocuts together to make collaborative tessellation prints at events, galleries, and studios throughout New Mexico, as well as in El Paso (soon in Tucson).  Karl Whitaker of Albuquerque and Manuel Guerra of El Paso are taking the lead on this project.

Most innovative perhaps, is that this particular "hat" shape will tessellate infinitely without ever making a regular pattern.  It has only been known to the world for about two years (the shape is called an "Aperiodic Monotile"). We cut the tiles out with a laser cutter, very contemporary, to insure that they will all be the same.

This initiative is a continuation of our previous HYPERLOCAL print projects, like the Desert Triangle Print Carpeta, and the Ambos Lados International Print Exchange.

Ultimately with Tamarind Institute and Takach Press located in Albuquerque, printmaking should have a bigger presence in New Mexico.  That has been happening recently with the Southwest Print Fiestas and the Printers Planet Festivals for instance, both of which we participate in.  Our EXQUISITE TESSELLATION Print project is more interactive and intimate -- a "hands on" approach to integrating our regional printmaking talents.

I gave them two blog links:

I also submitted these three photos:
