Tucson Sculpture Festival 2012

November 9, 2021

The Tuesday Night drawing group of Santa Fe drew together online using Zoom, because of the Covid 19 quarantine.  The model was from San Angelo, Texas.

I downloaded the photo from the "Dalí Atomicus" photoshoot in 2008 at the Sculpture Resource Center in Tucson, created by the Woodhall brothers. Then I used the following software to make the video above:

I like how the AI text-to-image program altered this drawing with the two famous Dali artworks below:

Why not push it further in Deep Dream Generator?

The Dalí alterations at least conserved the attitude of my figure drawings, if nothing else.

I drew on the above drawing later and edited it heavily, but did not improved it:

 Before and After
Improving the drawing

I drew the shorter poses with a lead holder pencil on a cheap newsprint pad (that I bought at the Dollar Tree), so the lines were even fainter than normal.  However the "Unsharp Mask" function of Photoshop Elements 2021 brought out the faint lines.  Moreover, it did not do this uniformly, rather it enhanced the quality of line.  The darker marks became very dark, and the lighter lines were more faint, giving the figure a sense of space and some volume, without losing the motion.  With this nice variation in line the figure breathes and looks like it is made of elastic:

The scanned drawing was extremely light (l),
but the figure was rescued by Photoshop Elements (r)

I then used Deep Dream Generator to apply the style of the above drawing (r) enhanced with "Unsharp Mask" to other drawings on my blog:

The original drawing (l) had flatter, more boring lines;
the AI program gave it more life (drawing on right)
by transferring the style of the previous drawing above (right side)

The lighter drawings worked better with this method, using the AI program Deep Dream Generator, giving decent results like the figure below:

My dataset is uploaded on Justin Pinkney's GitHub -- Awesome Pretrained StyleGAN2:

Someone even asked permission to use it -- Mark Hanslip -- which is amazing.  That is what it is for.

I went down the AI Deep End, but posted on a back webpage  -- other text-to-image programs and experiments.
